Why Fast Food Diets Are a Hit With Busy People?
If the thought of fast food diets makes your head swivel, it shouldn't. Just because you have to eat at a fast food place periodically, doesn't mean that you have to blast your diet out of the water. In fact, there are actually fast food diets that offer a healthy choice and a walk down calorie reduction lane. Don't get too excited, there are no fried foods on the fast food diet, but there are delicious choices for the busy dieter.
Fast food diets begin by finding the nutritional information for the places you normally stop for a quick bite. Of course, the hamburgers may not be on your menu unless you remove the bun and French fries are history, but there are many nutritious and low calorie meals at your local fast food chain.
Salads are King, Sometimes
Salads are always a good selection when you're looking for fare for fast food diets. McDonald's, Wendy's, Quiznos, Chick-fil-A and Burger King all have salads.
Some of the top salads for lowest calories and highest nutritional quality include Taco Bell Chicken Ranch Taco Salad (Fresco Style) and their Chipotle Steak Salad (Fresco Style), McDonald's Premium Southwest Salad with Grilled Chicken, Chick-fil-A Chargrilled Chicken Garden Salad and the Chargrilled Chicken and Fruit Salad.
Wendy's Mandarin Chicken Salad, Jack in the Box Grilled Chicken Salad, KFC Grilled Chicken BLT Salad, Carl's Jr. Cranberry Apple Walnut Grilled Chicken Salad and Carl's Jr. Original Grilled Chicken Salad are also good for fast food diets. Most of these salads are less than 400 calories with over half under 300.
Not all salads are perfect for fast food diets. Some actually contain quite a few calories. If you're trying to lose weight, the Wendy's BLT salad with the Honey Dijon dressing has almost 900 calories and over 53 grams of fat.
The Jack in the Box Chicken Club Salad with Bacon Ranch Dressing has 866 calories and 59 grams of fat. The Taco Bell Chipotle Steak Taco Salad has a whopping 900 calories with 57 grams of fat. Obviously, this is not the best choice for your diet.
Drinks Make A Difference
You can cut thousands of calories from your diet if you simply change from soft drinks or sweetened beverages to the unsweetened version. Diet soda, while low in calories still has the same problem for those on diets as do all sodas, they contain artificial sweeteners that please the palate but don't stimulate the brain cells the same way as sugar does and you eat more.
According to a study done at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, the more diet sodas a person drinks, the more likely they are to gain weight. Instead, learn to love tea without sugar. Green tea is especially good for diets as it boosts the weight loss in dieters. Coffee without any of the extras is also a zero calorie drink. If you want one of the best drinks for dieters, simply drink water. The body uses the extra water to flush out impurities and of course, with zero calories.
Desserts
Not every fast food restaurant has desserts so the list is limited. If you simply must follow your meal with a dessert, try McDonalds Fruit n Yogurt Parfait with granola for an additional 160 calories and two tiny grams of fat. Their Fruit & Walnut salad eaten alone or as a dessert for 210 calories and 8 grams of fat or their apple dippers with low-fat caramel are another choice and contain only 35 calories and 1/2 gram of fat. The winner for low calorie dessert is another McDonald's dessert. The Mandarin Orange Cup contains only 80 calories and the winner in the dessert calories for fast food diets.
