Fitness Tip #1 Short Burst Training for Shorter Periods

Burst training or Short-Burst training is a series of exercises that go from high intensity or maximum speed to low intensity movement or speed. You can use it in place of running long distances and it actually has a more beneficial effect on your heart besides getting you in shape quicker.

The whole idea is to maximize your speed and exertion for 30 seconds and then allow your body to recover for 90 seconds. First start with a three-minute warm up before you begin. Then add a burst of speed, running all out to raise your heart rate as high as possible. After the 20 to 30 second all out run, slow down to a slight jog or fast walk (depending on what shape you're in at the time). Repeat this cycle for a total of eight times. End with a cool down time of about two minutes.

You'll find that you'll start to sweat about the second or third repetition. If you're out of shape, only do as many reps as you feel comfortable. Hopefully, you'll do at least three. You can do the same thing running, riding a bike or any other type of aerobic exercise you choose. (Make sure to consult with your doctor before you start any exercise programs).

Fitness Tip #2 Ways to Exercise but Not Use Exercise

That's really confusing. Fitness comes from many things, not just formal exercise. The construction worker that lifts heavy objects all day is probably quite fit even if he doesn't exercise (As long as he's not lifting with a mechanical device).

When you go shopping or any place you drive, park a distance from the door and walk. You'll save gas money you'd spend driving around the lot looking for the "best" parking spot and you'll also get exercise.

Take the stairs instead of the elevator. Walk briskly as often as you can rather than stroll slowly. Make a conscious effort to do things in a manner that gives your body the best workout possible.

Fitness Tip #3 Eat to Live

You have to eat to live but what you eat makes a difference between how healthy you are and how well you live. Fast foods normally don't make it in the healthy bracket. However, many of the fast food restaurants now offer salads. (Be aware that those salads with fried chicken strips don't necessarily make you healthier. Choose grilled instead.)
