Flaxseed Oil and Cancer
For centuries, healers and men of medicine used natural ingredients found on the land to aid in their quest to make patients better. Some of the ancient remedies proved to be truly beneficial and modern drug companies dusted them off, packaged them differently and sold them as their own idea. For instance, Native Americans used foxglove used to help those with fluid accumulation known as dropsy. Today, the ingredient digitalis comes from the foxglove plant and dropsy is only a signal the person has a heart condition. Flaxseed is another of those early cures that science is just rediscovering.

Flaxseed Oil and Prostate Cancer
Scientists are now investigating flaxseed oil containing lignans and flaxseed as a cure or preventative for some forms of cancer. While the studies are few and often small, there's evidence that the lignans in flaxseed fiber may help control early-stage prostate cancer. Best of all, even if the studies are wrong, consuming the oil and/or the seed can only improve your health.
Flaxseed Oil and the Budwig Diet
In the 1950's Johanna Budwig an eminent biochemist from Germany postulated a theory that sulfur rich proteins and essential fatty acids help the body to rid itself of cancer. She changed the diet of many patients and found their condition improved when they received meals consisting of fresh fruits and vegetables free of sugary additions supplemented with a dish of quark, a German form of fermented milk that we know as cottage cheese, and flaxseed oil.
The mixture consisted of a tablespoon of flaxseed oil for every 1/4 cup of cottage cheese. In order to activate the combination, she thoroughly mixed it with a beater. For those that found it unpalatable, she might add some fresh fruit or a small amount of honey to the mixture and if the person were too weak to eat, she's add a bit of champagne to make the delivery to the digestive system faster and easier on the patient.
Budwig wrote of many successful cures on individuals that received no hope from traditional medicine and noted that the combination helps prevent cancer in addition to curing it. Again, like the flaxseed oil and fiber used for prostate cancer, because this was food some people normally eat, it caused no harm and only gave health benefits beyond the potential for a cancer cure.
Even though Budwig showed a 90 percent cure rate even with the most severe cancer patients, traditional medicine overlooked her discovery. One reason she believed they did was that the ingredients cost little and were available to everyone. In other words, you simply couldn't patent the cure.
Is there Proof of Flaxseed Oil and Cancer Cure?
While there is no proof that flaxseed oil can cure cancer, there's plenty of evidence that consuming it daily improves your health and your immune system. You should always discuss cancer therapy with your oncologist and approach the disease with the most logical method. For those given no hope or only limited hope of a successful traditional treatment, discussing alternative methods may be a viable option that improves the quality of life and may prolong it.
