What is Healing Touch?

More and more scientists and men of medicine are now beginning to understand that the body is more than just the blood and tissue we see, it is also highly charged energy forces. Modern medicine barely covers the realignment of energy. Some recognized methods include acupuncture and acupressure. However, these two methods deal with the internal pathways for the energy. The healing touch is one of the methods that deal with the energy forces that surround the body.

How It Started?

A nurse named Janet Mentgen began the Healing Touch program to help her patients heal faster and have a greater sense of well-being. Both the American Holistic Nurses Association and the Nation Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork endorse Healing Touch Therapy. In addition to those endorsements, many colleges and universities include this therapy in their nursing curriculum.

Before the Therapy

This energy therapy program involves practitioners to use their hands to adjust the biofield, the magnetic field around the body. Before they begin the therapy, the therapist often meditates so they can center themselves. The patient normally lies on a massage bed or table. The Healing Touch therapist uses either his hands or a crystal on a string to asses the energy fields of the patients. Normally, they do this above the charka locations and painful areas.

Before working with the areas of low energy, the therapist clears the charka areas by using hand movements above the area. The therapist may or may not actually touch the body. If they do, it's an almost imperceptible touch. The therapist intentionally looks into their heart for loving direction and increased energy to help facilitate the healing. They intentionally redirect the field of energy where it isn't flowing properly or is stagnant. This helps the body's healing process.

Feedback from Patients

Many patients report the fact that the Healing Touch relaxes them so much that they fell asleep. Others find that there are involuntary muscle spasms that occur during the healing touch. Some experience seeing visions or colors during the sessions. Some only feel warms or simply feel better after the session ends.

The Healing Touch is for more than simply physical healing. You can use it for mental, spiritual and emotional healing as well. Practitioners use it to restore the sense of balance and harmony to the body by restoring the natural flow of energy. Once this occurs, the body can repair itself and the mind and emotions heal.

Scientists are Discovering

More and more scientists are discovering there is an energy field around the body and is the basis for many alternative medicine practices such as the Healing Touch. This type of therapy is a form of complementary medicine and used with traditional and other alternative medicine practices. Since it is non-invasive, it won't harm you, but few studies are available on its effectiveness. However, those studies completed show that it relaxes patients and does help to reduce pain. Any therapy that relaxes also aids in the healing process since it reduces stress. Stress causes a delay in healing and affects the body in a negative manner.
