Herbal Remedies For Gerd

Also known as acid reflux, GERD can range from being so mild that it is hardly even noticeable at all to being so severe that it is often actually debilitating. Bloating, gas, nausea, heartburn, shortness of breath, and/or an acidic taste in the throat often accompany the condition.

Different Treatments For Different People

One of the most popular treatment involves the use of pills, syrups or other types of liquids to relieve the occasional GERD symptoms. When a person feels acid reflux, they take the medicine as they need it that will hopefully stop the symptoms.

There are individuals with a very bad case of GERD who are going to need something that they can take everyday.

These pills may work to relieve the symptoms as well as to heal the damaged areas that are caused by Gerd. Others, however, are looking to treat their symptoms naturally with the use diet, nutritional supplementation, and herbal remedies for Gerd.

Coptis or Gondenseal

Tincture. Take 15-20 drops in 1/4 cup of water. Stops heartburn associated with emotional problems.

  • Do not take for more than 2 weeks.
  • Do not take this if you are pregnant, or you have gallstones, heart disease or glaucoma.
  • Do not take if you are taking B6 vitamin, or protein supplements with amino acid histidine.

More Herbs

Turmeric - Take 1 teaspoon in 1 cup cold water. Do not substitute with curcumin. Stops stomach irritation.

Aloe Vera Juice - It aids in healing the intestinal tract.

Catnip, fennel, ginger, marshmallow root, and papaya tea -- help stop the heartburn and promote proper digestion.

Chamomile tea - helps relieve irritation of the food pipe.

Deglycyrrhizinated licorice (DGL) - may be effective in treating heartburn and ulcers of the stomach and the food pipe. Do not use if you have high blood pressure.

Other Helpful Recommendations

  • Drink a large glass of water at the first sign of heartburn - this often helps.
  • Try raw potato juice. Do not peel, just scrub and put in juicer. Mix juice with equal amount of water. Drink immediately after juicing. Drink three times a day.
  • Try drinking fresh cabbage or celery juice everyday.
  • Mix 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in 1 glass of water and sip while eating. Do not drink any other liquids with meals.
  • Eat fresh papaya and/or pineapple - this may help with the digestion. Chew a few of the papaya seeds as well.
