There is no right answer or wrong answer to the question, "Is distilled water bad to drink?" The answer lies in the way you'll use the distilled water, the length of time you'll use it and your health.

What Is Distilled Water?

Distilled water is really the results of water vapor condensing. Manufacturers boil the water until it evaporates. They then collect the vapor as it condenses. This means the water has no dissolved minerals in it and can actively absorb toxins from the system.  Then the toxins flush out with your body waste.

Distilled Water for Detox

Most natural health authorities still recommend distilled water for detoxifying your system. Because the water contains no dissolved minerals and has the capabilities of absorbing toxins, it's perfect for a cleanse or detox. However, these should be practiced for short time periods, seldom, if ever, lasting more than a few weeks at one time. If you fast and only drink distilled water, it can cause a loss of electrolytes and trace minerals, which can play havoc on the body, including causing an irregular heart beat among other problems.

Long Term Use

Fifty years ago, health gurus suggested the only water to drink and cook with should be distilled water. That information, for long-term use, is not accurate. In fact, it can create more problems in the area of nutrition, even if you aren't fasting.

When you cook with distilled water, just like in the body where the water pulls out toxins, it pulls nutrients out of the foods you cook, leaving you with a lot of fiber but few nutrients. More modern health experts cite diseases and syndromes caused by using distilled water on a regular basis for long periods.

According to the author of "Conscious Eating," Dr. Gabriel Cousens, "Distilled water is dead, unstructured water so foreign to the body that one actually gets a temporary high white blood cell count in response to drinking it."

Mineral Deficiences, Heart Diseases and More!

According to many of the experts in the field of natural cures, the long-term use of distilled water causes multiple mineral deficiencies and can contribute to high blood pressure, cardiovascular problems and putting the body into an acidic state. An epidemic occurred of distilled water drinkers that practiced it for a long period having hair loss from thinning to clumps falling. This occurred because of the mineral deficiencies it evoked.

The distilled water isn't alkaline or neutral after a while in an open container. In fact, it tends to becomes slightly acidic when left in an open-air container. Consuming this type of water, particularly if you are already overly acidic is not a healthy alternative for your body.

While tap water isn't good for you if you live in a city that adds chemicals and pollutants or get water from a well that has contaminated ground water, distilled water, over the long haul is actually worse. Again, it's a great drink for detoxing if you're ill because it does have an affinity to toxin and helps remove them from the body, but it also has an affinity for nutrients so it does not offer a potential for daily use.
