There have been many nutritional therapies for cancer through the centuries. One from Germany was a soup made with tomatoes and other vegetables. The person with cancer ate nothing but the soup for several weeks. In some cases, they became better and rid their body of the dreaded disease. In others, there was no change. Another treatment is juicing for cancer. The philosophy of juicing to treat cancer is that you can get more servings of fruits and vegetables, therefore more nutrients, when you juice, rather than consume the foods in their solid form. That's because it removes much of the pulp and fiber.
One cup of juice, according to the Stanford Cancer Center, is the equivalent of eating five cups of the vegetables, at least when it comes to celery and carrots. The ratio may vary with other vegetables, but the concept is still the same, you use more vegetables per cup when you juice than you do when they're eaten raw.
Easier to Digest
Another benefit from juicing is that the juice is easier to digest. Eating raw vegetables can be difficult for some people. Frequently, problems with teeth and/or the digestive system can make consuming large amounts of fresh vegetables extremely difficult. However, a glass of fresh juice is easy to consume and easy on the digestive system with the nutrients easily available.
Cures Diseases
One major proponent of juicing for cancer treatment is Dr. Gerson. Gerson believed that when you boosted the body's immune system, you could increase the potential for curing not only cancer but also other degenerative diseases, including diabetes, arthritis and heart disease. In order to do that, he proposed flooding the body with the enzymes and nutrients daily from 20 pounds of organically grown fresh fruits and vegetables. Of course, it would be difficult for anyone to consume that much if it came in solid form, but not nearly as difficult if the fresh diet were in the form of juice.
Gerson's Cancer Therapy Diet
Gerson's juicing for cancer diet included 13 glasses of juice from raw carrots, apples and green leafy vegetables, one given each hour. It also included three full vegan meals, which included a cooked vegetable, baked potato, vegetable soup, salad and juice. If the patient was still hungry, there was as much fresh vegetables and fruit available as he wanted. The doctor also included a potassium supplement, a compound made that had 84 percent distilled water, 10 percent potassium iodide and five percent iodine called Lugol's Solution, vitamin B-12, pancreatic enzymes and thyroid hormone. The final protocol was a coffee enema. Even though this treatment might work, I firmly prefer my coffee entering my body in the conventional manner.
Red, Blue and Purple Vegetables
Alternative diet treatments for cancer range from those emphasizing specific foods to those emphasizing the overall condition of the body, such as high acidity. Some of the diets using juicing for cancer treatment include a massive variety of fruits and vegetables, while others target specific foods. The type of cancer you have might make a difference on the type of juicing you use. A study at Ohio State University found that phytonutrients in dark red, blue and purple fruits and vegetables helped fight colon cancer because of the high anthocyanin content. Other fruits and vegetables may contain nutrients that target other forms of cancer. While there is no definitive answer whether you can cure cancer strictly with juicing for cancer treatment, there is ample evidence that many of the phytonutients in the foods help prevent cancer and some may even aid in killing it.
