Are You Ready for Low Carb Fast Food?
Low carb fast food often requires that you pitch the bun and eat the sandwich without any way of holding it. Consequently, you need to ask for a knife and fork if you order your meal bun free. Most low carb diets don't have allowances for a bun, so if you eat a sandwich at a fast food restaurant, prepare to dump the bun.
The Colonel's New Low Carb Fast Food
KFC has made it easy with their new Double Down. The Grilled Double Down is a loaded with fat but only has three carbs and 460 calories. The Original Recipe Double Down has 11 carbs and 540 calories.
The Double Down contains two slices of boneless white meat chicken filets in either the Original Recipe style or Grilled, two pieces of bacon, melted slices of Monterey Jack and Pepper Jack cheese and the Colonel's sauce.
Hardies Scores a Hit
Other restaurants have jumped on the low carb fast food bandwagon too. Hardies offer a lettuce wrap for your sandwich instead of the bun.
You can order any variety with your lettuce wrap and if the iceberg lettuce that replaces it is strong enough, you might be able to eat it like a sandwich. Often they put quite a few leafs on the wrap so it's nice and thick. They do serve it in a paper wrapper that makes it easier to eat but also give you a knife and fork, just in case. Ask for your sauce on the side so the wrap is easier to eat and less slippery.
McDonald's Salads
One of the trickiest salads is the McDonalds Caesar. You'd think that the grilled chicken salad was lower in carbs than the crispy one. However, there are two more grams of carbs in the grilled.
If you want a perfect low carb fast food meal, cut out the chicken and you'll reduce the carb count from 37g for a grilled Chicken Caesar to a mere 7grams.
Burger King Is Finally King for Low Carb Fast Foods
Burger King offers a Tendergrill Chicken Salad that's a mere 8 grams of carbs. Make sure you feed your croutons to the birds, of course.
If you need more for your meal, add the fresh apple fries. They are only shaped like fries and not fried and contain only 4 grams of carbs. When you eat it with the salad and dressing, you have a meal that's less than 25 grams of carbs.
Chipotle Burrito Bowl Makes the Low Carb Fast Foods List
You have to adjust the Burrito Bowl a bit so it makes the list but the adjustment is easy. Take off the wrap. If you don't add the corn, hot salsa or dressing, you have a mere 10 grams of carbs.
Add the dressing for 12 more grams, the hot salsa for another 8 grams and the corn for 15 grams, the count becomes a lot higher. Luckily, you can choose which addition you want or if you want them all in your low carb fast foods diet.
