For instance, a Type A personality is more prone to high blood pressure and coronary disease while Type B personalities have a higher incidence of cancer. Relaxation techniques allow you to use visual imagery, meditation, hypnosis, progressive muscle relaxation or spirituality to help reduce symptoms and aid the cure or control of disease. Spirituality training changes your viewpoint on life, which often aids in curing illnesses. Self-hypnosis and hypnosis play an important role in pain relief. In fact, many maternity facilities offer mothers hypnosis training before the birth of the baby to aid in delivery without pain. Meditation not only relaxes muscles but also teaches you to focus. When you learn to focus on specific things, you can block pain and relax your body.

Cognitive behavioral Therapy is another method of training your mind. This technique is most useful when dealing with phobias but you can also use it for illnesses. You learn to overcome phobias by exposing yourself to the object you fear. Little by little, you realize it isn't that scary. Much of the pain from illness comes from fear. Fear creates tension and tension makes pain worse. Cognitive behavior can also help improve a negative attitude that contributes to illness.
Other methods used in mind body healing include acupuncture, simple deep-breathing exercises, yoga, guided imagery, qi gong, and tai chi.
