Some of these foods that have been added to the new pyramid, which will contribute to better health include items such as whole grains, plant oils, fish, poultry as well as eggs, butter and red meats, and vitamin supplements. The first such new food addition is the whole grains that are ideal because they supply your body with carbohydrates that the body needs and you can also include oatmeal and also whole wheat bread and bran.

Next, there are plant oils, which were not included in the original food pyramid though you should include unsaturated fats that are found in olives, soy, canolas and corn sunflower and also peanut oils, which are useful in reducing cholesterol. As for fish, eggs and poultry, you get protein from them and they are more suited than animal meats and you can also include milk and cheese in this regard. The new food pyramid also advises eating red meat and butter in sparing quantities, while vitamin supplements ensure that the organs get the required nourishment.
