Benefits of Eating Organic Chicken

Organically grown chicken is actually raised pretty much the same way as other chickens. The difference lies largely in what the farmers feed and inject the chickens to keep them healthy and disease free.

As with other kinds of organic health food meats, the key to certifying chicken as organic is in the type of feeds used in raising them. A chicken passing the standards that have been set -- can then be labeled organic.

Organic plants which have been grown and processed in such a way that chemicals that are harmful are taken out of the equation are used to feed the chicken. This is one of the more important components of raising organic chicken. The farmer needs to be sure that the feeds used are certified organic.

To make sure that the chickens are fit to be labeled organic, the medications given to the organic chicken need to conform to the standards set by a regulating agency.

There are some farmers who raise chickens for bigger profits at the cost of the environment and human health. These farmers use antibiotics and growth hormones to enhance the chickens' survival and to fatten them for heavier weight.

Organic farmers producing chicken on the other hand, do not compromise to make their chickens heavier at the risk of sending out chickens that may eventually be the cause of sickness and diseases for humans.

The Environment

Preservation of the environment is another benefit that we get from choosing or eating organically raised chicken. When chicken and other livestock are given organic feeds, this will prevent the exposure and seepage of chemical based fertilizers and harmful pesticides unto the soil and stay there for along time.

Even the local animals and insects benefit from farmers feeding their chickens organic feeds because there is no exposure of harmful chemicals and substances to these animals and insects.

Eating organic chicken is a healthy alternative to ordinary chicken and it is also tastier. After all, going organic will benefit us and our children and their children as well. This is one way of trying to make the world a safer and healthier place for the future generations.
