Sonic Fast Food - Nutrition Facts / Sonic Calories

Sonic fast food can be a good selection or one of the worse you've ever made. The choice is yours. Unlike McDonald's they don't have as many healthy foods from which to choose from, but they do have a large menu. The selection includes a variety of burgers, all which seem to come in a combo with fries or "tator" tots and a soft drink. They also offer salads, wraps and hot dogs.

The Foods that Can Send You to Coronary Care

There's every type of hamburger imaginable at the Sonic fast food chain. The calorie counts for most of the regular size burgers are hovering around 600 calories with the Jr. burgers lower and the Super Sonics as high as a whopping 900 calories. Almost half the calories from the burger is in fat.

Of course, no burger is complete without fries or tots and a soft drink. The combo menu gives both of these. They also offer Chili cheese tots, chili cheese fries, mozzarella sticks and onion rings. These are also high in calories and fat but offer little in the way of nutrition.

The Sonic fast foods soft drinks have extras added to them to make "Sonic Ocean Water" and limeades in addition to tea both sweetened and unsweetened and slushes. Even though the thought of a slushy with real fruit seems enticing and healthy, they only contain any significant amount of vitamin C. However, the lime slushy does provide 50 percent of the daily nutritional requirement for vitamin C.

In addition, you can pack some fat to your backside by ordering the ice cream treats. There are many of the old time favorites offered by Sonic and some new ones also. Besides the shakes and floats typical to fast food chains, Sonic fast foods also have cream slushes, cream pie shakes and real fruit smoothies. These are high in calories but belong in the Sonic fast foods "good for you" section.

Eat Healthier at Sonics

You don't have to consume all the fat in the world when you eat at Sonics. You can enjoy the old time atmosphere and still remain healthy. You do have to make your choices carefully for the most nutritious meal.

Salads are always a good place to start and Sonic doesn't have a large selection, but it's good enough to give you a nutritious meal without many calories.

The grilled chicken salad and crispy chicken salad provide you with a lower calorie meal. The grilled chicken is only 250 calories with the crispy chicken at 340. Of course, that number doesn't include any dressing. You can keep the calorie count lower by using a diet dressing or simply add another 200 calories for regular dressing if you want to splurge.

The salad gives you significant amounts of vitamin A, C, iron and calcium so those calories aren't wasted. However, half of the calories come from fat in the crispy version and one third of them in the grilled.

There are three wraps with the Fritos chili cheese wrap being the highest in calories but offering the most calcium, iron and vitamin A. While they aren't as nutritious as the salad, they still are a better alternative than a burger.

The most amazing part of the menu was the cream slushes, cream pie shakes and real fruit smoothies. While many of these have enough calories to keep a small village alive for a day, they also have a considerable amount of nutrients. Of course, you couldn't live on just these, but if you want a treat that gives you more than just empty calories, you might consider these Sonic fast foods.

You can also order apple slices and banana slices. These are choices available as sides or part of the child meal and probably one of the best selections on the menu. If you want to look at the nutritional chart for all the Sonic fast foods, just click here.
