Benefits of Superoxide Dismutase
SOD is an enzyme that revitalizes cells and reduces the rate of cell destruction. It counteracts the most common and possibly the most dangerous free radicals, superoxide radicals. These radicals influence the breakdown of synovial fluid that lubricates the body joints.
SOD works in conjunction with catalase, an enzyme which is present throughout the body. Catalase removes hydrogen peroxide, which is the side effect of SOD reactions. It also helps in the utilization of zinc, copper, and manganese. While SOD levels decline with age, free radical production increases. The potential of using SOD as anti aging is being explored. Natural sources of SOD include barley grass, broccoli, wheatgrass, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, and most green plants.
Good sources of supplemental superoxide dismutase include Cell Guard form Biotec Food Corporation and KAL SOD3 from Nutraceutical International. Page Content Obtained From
