Getting professional help is always recommended. Your doctor may prescribe anti-anxiety medication and refer you to a mental health specialist.

Your therapist will be able to work with you to determine just what type of anxiety you are suffering from, and although each type of anxiety disorder is different in its own way, they all share one thing in common -- persistence. The frequency and intensity of anxiety can be distressing and even immobilizing.

Once you have determined the type of anxiety that you are suffering from, you will be able to find the proper treatment. Mild anxiety disorders may respond easily with relaxation and self help techniques that you can do at home.

What Can You Try?

Yoga, for instance, is a great form of exercise that can help greatly with anxiety and related health conditions, and is definitely something that should be tried before more serious forms of anxiety treatment.

If your anxiety is more severe or persistent, then therapy or counseling may be the best option. Cognitive behavioral therapy for one has proven to be very effective in the treatment of anxiety disorders of all sorts, and it basically focuses on changing the maladaptive thinking patterns of the patient.

You may choose to go with a treatment plan that includes herbal and natural treatments, as herbal remedies such as kava kava and valerian root can be effective at treating some anxiety disorders and depression.

You do have to keep in mind however, that just because the herbal remedies used in treating anxiety are natural it does not mean that you do not have to be cautious. If not taken properly these herbal remedies for anxiety can actually end up making your anxiety even worse.

Hypnotherapy, biofeedback, and acupuncture are all great options that you can explore. You may also want to consider making dietary changes and taking nutritional supplements that may help reduce your symptoms.
